The count of 36 is the original Nintendo 64 and 3DS game. That is what the 100% checklist tracks. Nintendo has not said whether the Switch 2 remake keeps that total. The changes page says collectible counts are not announced, and the Switch 2 page lists them under what we do not guess.

On the original game, every four Pieces of Heart make one Heart Container, which is nine extra hearts. With 3 starting hearts and 8 Heart Containers from bosses, the original maximum is 20 hearts. The boss containers are a separate list on the checklist. One of the 36 pieces is the House of Skulltula reward for 50 Gold Skulltula tokens.

Locations follow the original game, because the remake is not out. Pre-release previews have reported moved chests and tweaked puzzles, so treat the list as a starting point and check it again after launch on November 5, 2026.
